Allenwood School - Special Services Staff

  • Elizabeth Cross, School Psychologist

I have been a school psychologist at Wall Township Public Schools for 21 years.  I have experience working at Wall Primary School and currently work at both Allenwood Elementary School and Central Elementary School. As a school psychologist, I help students to succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.  My role is collaborative in nature with educators, parents, and other professionals to provide a supportive learning environment that strengthens connections between home, school, and the community for all students. My training emphasized preparation in mental health and educational interventions, child development, learning, behavior, motivation, curriculum and instruction, assessment, consultation, collaboration, school law, and systems.

I am looking forward to a wonderful year helping students develop speech and language skills at Allenwood School.  It is my pleasure to work with our staff and students, also known as the Allenwood Family. I am a graduate of The College of New Jersey with a Master of Arts in Speech Pathology.  I am passionate about helping students both in the speech room and the classroom to achieve their goals.  During my over 25 years in the field, I have learned so much. Some knowledge was gained from pursuing continued education credits, but the most valuable lessons were learned from my talented colleagues and most importantly, the children that I teach. When I am not teaching at Allenwood, you can find me and my family at the beach. We enjoy new health and fitness challenges, traveling, and entertaining our friends and family.

I'm so happy to be a part of the Wall Township Public Schools community. I've been in the district since 2010, and have experience at each level.  As a school psychologist, I help students to succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.  I collaborate with educators, parents, related service providers, and other professionals to provide a supportive learning environment that strengthens connections between home, school, and the community for all students. I'm happy to help if you have any questions about the referral process, special education programs, or mental health resources.

Assist in the development and coordination of an appropriate individualized education plan for each pupil requiring special education and/or related services. Participate in the ongoing assessment of academic achievement and educational placement of classified pupils. Consult with classroom teachers, administrators, and parents regarding special instructional methods and/or materials necessary to meet the specific needs of individual pupils. Keep up to date in the field of learning disabilities with current regulations governing the education of pupils with disabilities. Work to keep the community informed of the special education program and the role of the learning disability teacher-consultant. If you have any questions about the referral process and or special education programs related to learning disabilities, please reach out.

I am so excited about getting to know all of the students here at Allenwood and working on achieving their speech and language goals. I will be at Allenwood on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It is my pleasure to work alongside our wonderful staff and students in such a positive environment. A little about me... I was fortunate enough to grow up on the Jersey Shore where I spent all my summers at the beach. Also, I played soccer all throughout high school and college. I received my Speech-Language Pathology Master's degree from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut. I am passionate about helping each unique student increase their independence and reach their full potential. When I am not teaching at Allenwood, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, waitressing, going to the gym, traveling, and hanging out with my big black lab puppy, Doc!  Fun facts about me: I love mint chocolate chip ice cream and watching Shark Tank! I look forward to a successful and fulfilling 2022-2023  academic year!
