Ms. Dapp
Spring has sprung! The days are longer and the students are enjoying more outdoor time. We are all feeling a touch of spring fever! Nevertheless, the students continue to work hard.
We are finishing our study of Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. Our discussions involved predicting, analyzing Kate DiCamillo's text structure, comparing and contrasting characters, identifying theme, and stating various characters' points of view. Students look forward each day to reading the new chapter events then discussing their interpretations and discoveries. We are all sorry to see the story come to an end. Because of Winn-Dixie has become a favorite for all of us!
In math we have begun to work with fractions. We are comparing fractions, placing them on a number line, and identifying equivalent fractions. The students are using the fractions to estimate the length of objects then creating line plots to show their data. We also continue to practice the multiplication and division facts. Please continue to work with your child on these facts. Each child should know all of the facts up to 12.
Our latest science topic includes a study of traits and inheritance. Students explore the inherited and acquired traits of plants and animals. Students also examine how a particular environment can affect traits, including inherited traits that provide animals with an advantage for survival.
Be sure to discuss our school day with your child to help them review the skills we practiced and to help you stay informed. Thank you for your continued support!
